John Morton, Sr.

John Morton (Senior), was Finnish. He originated from Finland with his great-grandfather, Martti Marttinen (the family's original name, anglicized as Morton), himself a native of Rautalampi, Finland, who had arrived in the Swedish colony of New Sweden in 1654. John Morton, born I June 1683, married Mary, daughter of John Archer, c. 1724. Died in Ammansland 1725 on plantation he had been given by his uncle, John Bärtilsson.
