Henry (Towns) Townes served with Halifax County Militia, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.
Henry was born about 1754, probably in Amelia, Virginia, the son of William Townes and Ann Nancy Childers.

Henry married Polley (Mary) Davis, 13 Dec 1784, in Mecklenburg, Virginia. [1]

Henry wrote his will, 27 Jan 1818, in Henderson, Kentucky. He died before Oct 1824, when his will was proved. It names his wife Mary and his children:

1. Baxter D. Townes,
2. Henry Townes,
3. John Pride Townes,
4. Alfred Townes,
5. Amelia Clay (wife of Charles Clay),
6. Ann Bennett (wife of Edward Bennett) and
7. Elizabeth Townes.

Bequests were left in his Will to each of his children and to his wife, Mary.[2]

Revolutionary War Service

Henry served as a First Lieutenant under Captain B. Wall who raised a volunteer company at Halifax. As noted in the Pension Application of his brother, Thomas Townes, Henry was Thomas' First Lieutenant. [3]
