Grand Rabbi Eleazar Mendel Biderman of Lelov

(1827 – 1883). The Lelever Rebbe. He became the head of the Chassidic community in Jerusalem when he and his father, the Admor, came to Jerusalem in 1850, and his father suddenly passed away. He was known for his long prayers filled with longing for Hashem. He went to the Kotel, the Western Wall, every day, despite oppression from the Arab residents. He bore many pains and sufferings but was never heard to complain, and his face shone with happiness at all times.

אחרי רבי משה כיהן באדמו"רות בנו, רבי אלעזר מנחם מנדל שהיה לאדמו"ר הראשון שהתחיל את כהונתו בירושלים והוא קבע את הלבוש הירושלמי, שמכונה ביידיש "געלע קאפטן". כמו כן תיקן את מנהג תליית 10 נרות השמן בבית הכנסת ("הענג לייכטער"). רבי אלעזר נפטר במוצאי שבת בעיצומה של סעודת מלוה מלכה בפורים משולש בירושלים, ט"ז באדר ב' ה'תרמ"ג.

בשנת ה'תרי"א עלה עם אביו לארץ ישראל, כיהן כאדמו"ר חסידות לעלוב בירושלים. נודע בצדקותו ובקדושתו המופלאה, תיקן לתלות נרות לעילוי נשמת הנפטרים בבית הכנסת והנהיג את הלבוש הירושלמי. במהלך סעודת מלוה מלכה הנערכת במוצאי שבת לכבוד דוד מלכה משיחא שנת ה'תרמ"ג אשר היה גם מוצאי פורים בירושלים השיב את נשמתו ליוצרה.
