1851 census lists family as living at 19 Drygate St Glasgow with Elizabeth described as owner of a "provisions shop".

1853 her Dad, William Bell (a "sawyer") applied for Elizabeth, husband and 6 daughters to be assisted as immigrants to NZ. Sail 13th July 1854 in the Gipsey from the Isle of Wight, arriving in Nelson 26th October 1864.

7th daughter (Williamina) born early into the voyage.
