Genetically, for any descendants the choice may not matter much: Ann's line did not produce any known grandchildren.
"December 16, 1688, he (William Alberson, Ann's step-father) located a tract of land in Gloucester Township, on a branch of Timber creek, called Otter branch. This property he bequeathed by will, 1709, to his son Josiah, June 1, 1698. William (1) conveyed his land in Newton township to his son William, and soon after this removed to Byberry, on Poquessink creek, Bucks County, Pa. Here he purchased large properties, consisting of mills and lands, some of which formerly belonged to Walter Forrest . In 1692 he purchased of Andrew Robeson a tract in Gloucester County {which he later gave to his son Abraham}.
He died in Poquessink in 1709, leaving a will, proved January 17, 1709, in which he mentions his wife Hannah, seven children, and his son-in-law, Jervis Stoddale. William married Hannah Druit, daughter of Morgan Druit. Hannah Druit Albertson transferred her certificate from Abington to Philadelphia meeting in 1729.

SPECULATION This unidentified child may have grown to adulthood in Ireland where both parents later went. The child may be the groom in: https://search.findmypast.com/record?id=IRE%2FQUAKER%2FMMVG-1%2F013... the wedding of John Sharples and Mary Metcalfe. There are two other Sharples at the wedding: Mary and Hannah.
By the way: This child's mother went on to a liason and marrige with William Alberson of Castledermot, a couple that had emigrated to the Province of West Jersey between 1681 & 1682.
Willam and Jane may have taken Ann (and other children) with them. William may have formally or informall adopted Ann and given her his surname. (There is little way William can be the father of Ann unless he had a partner before getting involved with Jane Preston.)

Shortly after discovering her pregnancy, Jane Preston left for Ireland and became a servant.
https://search.findmypast.com/record?id=IRE%2FQUAKER%2FMM11F-1%2F00... The account of Samuel Sharples follows Jane's. His contrition appears somewhat stilted compared to hers. This child born out of wedlock could easily be Mary Sharples... or a child still unknown and unrecorded... I feel that it's Ann, but I don't know ... |
