Alexander Gordon, third Earl of Huntly, who commanded the left wing of the Scottish Army at Flodden in 1513, married Joan, daughter of John Stewart, first Earl of Athole by his first marriage to Margaret, daughter of Archibald, fifth Earl of Douglas, and died in 1524.

Alexander Gordon, 3rd Earl of Huntly married by contract, firstly, Lady Jean Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl and Margaret Douglas, on 14 October 1474.[1]

He married, secondly, Elizabeth Gray, daughter of Andrew Gray, 2nd Lord Gray and Janet Keith, after 27 July 1511.[3]

He died on 21 January 1523/24.[1]

He was the son of George Gordon, 2nd Earl of Huntly and Lady Elizabeth Hay.[1],[2]

  • He was granted Strathavon, Banffshire and the Brae of Lochaber.[1]
  • He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Huntly [S., 1445] in June 1501.[1]
  • He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland].[1]
  • He fought in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513, where he commanded the Scots left wing.[1]
  • He held the office of Member of the Council Regency in 1517.[1]
