Historical Projects Under "Families of the Philippines"

THE WOMEN OF MALOLOS. Kicking this list off with one that I am going to work on next. The WOM flexed "girl power" in 1889, when they wrote to the Governor General about allowing their education in the Spanish language, a privilege extended only to men.

THE EDSA REVOLUTION. 1 and 2. Project leader wanted.

BTW, a project leader, should not only list key players, but research on the genealogies as well. :D

ASOCIACION FEMENISTA DE FILIPINAS. Established after the revolution, this associations members included the "Women of Malolos" and the sisters of Jose Rizal. They worked for women's rights to get an education and to vote. Project leader wanted.

THE KATIPUNAN. Leadership and prominent members, by region. Project leader wanted.

JOSE RIZAL. I am finally giving in. There are soo many duplicate profiles of Jose Rizal and his family members that I cannot ignore the need to housekeep. I hope to find more users who are open to collaborating and collecting documentation, rather than building individual trees. I will be working on the clean up over the next few days.

THE WOMEN OF MALOLOS. Done! Finished last week.

QUINCE MARTIRES BICOLANOS. The group was erroneously labelled as there were about 50 Bicolano men martyred during the persecutions preceeding the 1898 Revolution. I will get to this after I finish.

TIRONA FAMILY. I will be assisting Jerome Patrick Tirona Bautista in researching and cleaning up the Tirona family tree in time for their reunion in November. The Tirona's of Cavite figured prominently in the 1898 Revolution.

TRECE MARTIRES DE CAVITE. Project leader wanted.

Jerome Patrick Tirona Bautista, I was looking for info on the Tirona's; but instead, I found superb materials on the Marasigan Family and the founding fathers of San Juan, Batangas. Oh, well ...

How is your Tirona branch related to Daniel? A historical reference with the story of the Tirona's before Daniel is eluding me.

PHILIPPINE HERITAGE HOMES. Got excited about this one. The project is an inventory of owners of ancestral abodes all across the country. The page will link out to profiles/trees of original owners. It should link out to a Google Map (a collection specifically for old houses), and if an old photo exists, it should also be mapped on whatwasthere.com. I need an project partner on this ...

Hi Mona, I can help you gather old photos of heritage homes but I'm limited to Mis. Or. area only. Hope this helps you.

Would love to assist but my time is limited. Also, I am in the U.S. How can I help? At the end of all this, it would make for a fascinating book on how you gathered all this info, as well as the info itself! BTW, architecture is one of my loves. Pls keep me in the loop for this. And I do have, in my library:
* Philippine Ancestral Houses
* Filipino Style
and various books on tropical homes.

Private User and Vidda Chan. I looked at whatwasthere.com and they allow photos from third parties as long as sources are specifically mentioned, so on-line or book sources are acceptable. I will create the project later today and plug you both in as collaborators. :D

+1 for PHILIPPINE HERITAGE HOMES. I would love to see that. We have done very well with "historic homes of Massachusetts" for instance. Great idea.

The history surrounding Gabriela Silang is fascinating... I would hope that the families (I believe she was up in the northern part of Luzon Island) would be traceable...

I like out to these third-party sites to make sure we don't appear like we are claiming the imagery, and to capture the mobile users (both site integrate seamlessly with iPhones and Android phones).

1) Google Maps -- for the map and for the current photos (facade and interiors) The photos uploaded will be subject to review by Google.

2) WhatWasThere -- for the historical facade (no interiors). Note: it is important to set the angle of the photo.

Private User, I love Gabriela Silang! Nothing like a widow on a horse wielding a machete on the battlefield to capture one's imagination. The uprising against Spain she and her husband started in the north pre-dated the Philippine Revolution by more than 100 years. She was ahead of her time in more ways than one! Unfortunately, I have not done much research on her. We will have to find a project fitting of such an awesome display of girl power ...

Vidda Chan. Do you have maps to Philippine Heritage Houses in your collection. The folks at PCS have been quiet.

I will check and get back to you. BTW, I was born in Dipolog... sister city to Dapitan, Mindanao, where Jose Rizal was exiled. There's a good bit of history there! And some wonderful homes.... Dapitan, I mean.

The Tirona clan is pretty massive. We're holding our 5th Grand Reunion this November at Cavite. Perhaps it would be the best time to gather info. I am wondering what's the best way to capture the data. We've tried printing the tree on paper and posting it near the main venue. Other suggestions?

How about distributing mimeographed family data survey form for everyone to fill up? One way to capture new data for your family tree.
