What's the meaning of the profiles in the project? Not the collaborators or the ones listed on the project's main page, but the profiles that have been added.

I can see that a small number are actual genealogists, like literally just a few, but then there are profiles like these:

And so on. Profiles with no context.

Are these genealogists? How should we be noting that?

The project has 66 collaborators, some or one of which is responsible for adding those profiles.

It's hard for dead people to be active genealogists on Geni and there are a lot of dead people among the profiles in the project. They should all be removed.

I thought perhaps some were listed due to having been genealogists in their lifetimes...honestly, the project doesn't seem particularly clear about who is supposed to be added. Maybe that's part of the issue.

For example, the opening line says "This project aims to collect a list of live and recently deceased eminent experts in the field of genealogy who are or were active on Geni", but then the overview lists the eminent genealogist Donald Lines Jacobus, who died in 1970.

Based on a private message I've received in response to this thread, I have deleted all but three profiles from the project. It turns out someone thought that the project was meant as a place to ask for research help from experts by placing profiles in it. Fair enough misunderstanding!

I did understand the same thing as Ashley, so Donald Line Jacobus should be removed.

The scope was active on Geni. That it is also possible that we have eminent experts in the field active on Geni is another point. But it is not easy to proof that for living experts.

I've removed Donald Lines Jacobus and added him to the Genealogists project instead, since there's no way to argue that someone who died in 1970 died "recently."

"Recently" is ambiguous, maybe that should be defined more precisely.

For what it's worth, the only profile now left is Raivo Maine who died in 2022.

David Prins changed Malka's text in the beginning of this project in 2015 to "This project aims to collect a list of live and recently deceased eminent experts in the field of genealogy who are or were active on Geni". Malka's text was "This project aims to collect a list of eminent experts in the field of genealogy who are, or have been active, on Geni."

So in the beginning there waas no mention of deceased experts, just those who are or have been active on Geni.

So maybe we should change it to only those active on Geni since in my opinion that is what the heading implies.

My understanding of this project is to list expert genealogists that are active on Geni who you can contact for some help, but maybe [[Malka Mysels Malka Mysels] Malka] can explain her intent of this project since she's been active on this since it's start.

"Eminent" is also subjective, like what is the criteria for that? To me, "eminent" would be people who've been published in highest-level journals, presidents of national or international genealogical associations, etc. If we don't specify, it's going to keep going the current direction, with everyone with a blog or a desire for paid work listing themselves.

I think I get what Malka was going for -- we just need to firm up the language.
