The DAR reports that his father was William B Hamilton and Rachel Hamilton (born Dorman). This is repeated in many family trees. However, when you look the ages of both William B Hamilton and Rachel Hamilton things don't quite add up. While it's plausible that William B Hamilton is his father he would have been age 52 at the time of Benjamin Stewart Hamilton's birth. However, it is highly unlikely that in Rachel Dorman is his mother. She would have been age 51 at his birth, and while successful geriatric pregnancies have occurred in the modern era, it is highly unlikely this happened in the 1700s. However this keeps getting repeated in family trees, I suppose due to what I think is a factually incorrect DAR record. Prior to the 1980s DAR records were not as rigorous as the are today. So, my hypothesis is someone erroneously reported this to the DAR and they just put it in his record.
More reasons to question Rachel Dorman as his mother is the reports that she was born in New Haven Connecticut AND buried in New Haven Connecticut the wife of Moses Mansfield. So perhaps there is another Rachel Dorman, or she is not Benjamin Stewart Hamilton's mother.
