If not for my 2nd great grandmother, Lovina Simon (Rosenberger)'s death certificate saying her parents were Albert S Rosenberger and Christina Unknown, I would have made Christian Rosenberger and Christina Gilbert her parents. There are several reasons, first the 1850 US Census with Christian Rosenberger and Christena Rosenberger as the parents, has a Lavinia Rosenberger, birth about 1844 in Ohio; both facts that fit Lovina Simon (Rosenberger). Also on this same census is a brother Joseph age 2. On the 1860 Census the parents are Christian and Christene Rosenburg, with daughter Lovina age 16, son Joseph age 12, and another son Franklin, age 5. On 1870 Census the parents are Chris and Christiana Rosenberger with a son Joseph age 22, and two other sons whose names match the brothers in Lovina Simon's obituary, Frank age 14 and Albert age 7.
I only have 2 DNA matches in Ancestry's ThruLines through Albert S and Christina unkn, my niece and a 2nd cousin 2x removed. Whereas with my three other sets of 2nd great grandparents I have 8, 12 and 26 DNA matches, respectively. These things make me wonder if my grandaunt Ida may have mixed up, or not known for certain her mom's dad's first name. I know her brother, my grandfather, didn't know his mother's surname name (which sent me on a three year, three state hunt to find the name NOE) and told me she was an orphan. DNA has proven this otherwise, she wasn't an orphan and gave me a surname, Noe. So maybe, Ida was confused like her brother on his mother's full name and indeed Chris and Christina are my 3rd great grandparents.
