Private User says If you look at this profile Robert Henry Barker
You will see There are 2 fathers and one mother. The two fathers is thehttps://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000000763531793?return=duplicates__6000000024418064880___1&to=6000000125332638956 I initially sent.

They can't be merged as they are different people as you also said.
So somewhere there is an incorrect merge. Or his mother were married to two men with the same name?

Thomas Richard Barker and Thomas Richard Barker

Private User says According to sources on Familysearch this Thomas Richard Barker is his correct father.

See: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/GSY4-Q6S

On the other profile though Thomas Richard Barker it refers to a "relative of his wife Gerling"

So these two may actually be the same. With different fathers?

This is why I am confused. They are different but also looks the same. (Apart from a source for the different fathers.

Robert Henry Barker b 16 Mar 1863; Baptism 19 May 1863
s/o Sarah Johanna Mickham & Thomas Barker

Private User you are curating here. Any ideas?

If we start at the beginning of the problem

Sara Johanna Barker 1827-1898 has 2 husbands

Are there definitely 2 different men and if so which married Sara

Neither men currently have any sources.
What sources can we find for these 2 men?

In the absence of managers uploading any documentation!!, umerging on Sara in the hope of finding an original husband.

Sara Johanna Barker x Thomas Richard Barker 1825-1904 son of Robert Henry BARKER

Sara Johanna Barker x Thomas Richard Barker son of Joseph J BARKER and Ann CROSSLAND

Sources I can find

Thomas Richard BARKER married Hester Elizabeth JERLING on 14/1/1850 at Georgestad, South Africa

Thomas and Hester had children

Hester died in childbirth between c1858 (child was Thomas)

Thomas Richard BARKER married Sarah Johanna WICKHAM on 5/3/1860 at Melville

Thomas and Sarah had the following children

In the absence of input and marriage documentation with the husband's parents; or baptismal witnesses / censuses that show his parents - it seems wiser to revert to the husband on the earlier profile added by: Aletta Elizabeth Dorothea Beukes on 10 May 2013, especially as this actually has marriage details:
Married on 05/03/1860 in Knysna, so offers greater hope of having been based on a primary document somewhere.

Sorry Leanne - cross posted

Marriage: 5 Maart 1860

Thomas Richard Barker wewenaar to Sarah Johanna Wickham both living in Plettenbergbaai

Leanne, don't remerge yet, please

I have uploaded the marriage records for Sarah

Leanne, don't remerge yet, please. The conflict is coming from that merge

What sources are there for Sarah Scothern

There are no dates for her or her sons James and Albert

Okay, carry on - I've disconnected the likely erroneous husband - Thomas Richard Barker 1825-1904 son of Robert Henry BARKER

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Barker-7376
He only has 2 wives Hester JERLING and Sarah WICKHAM

=====

Says he was born 7 May 1825 in Saint Helena, baptised 7 July 1825 - father John BARKER, mother Mary SPRATT

Source - http://historicalpapers-atom.wits.ac.za/uploads/r/historical-papers...

Why do you think he is the wrong husband?

Sorry crossposted re the merge.
Didn't see it

The problem was coming from the husbands - no sources yet to determine which one married Hester and Sarah.

This statement "In 1940 a relative of his wife (Gerling) said: " There is no food in the house, but lots in the garden". He was a lovely, hospitable person."
Does not make sense for this profile Thomas Richard Barker

1) he died in 1904 so was dead 36 years before the statement was made
2) his wife Gerling died in 1858 - 82 years before the statement was made

What is the source for it

Who put it there?

What did you find in the Wits archives? I'm busy trawling through it

??

About a third of the way down the Wits PDF, the 2nd one says something like
May 7 182? Thomas Richard son of John & Mary Barker ???

Sorry I can't read them

I got the link from the wikitree profile.

Not sure how accurate the dates on the profiles are.

Appears to be guess work - ie they looked for the name around the time that someone who married in 1850 would have been born and when they found one they stopped looking.
