Undoing my disconnect until we can get more clarity as this is not my line.

I need a curator please and am asking folks with concrete sources for Germanna line:
Barbara Price, A509195, Private User, PLEASE tag and/or forward to the folks with the answers? I am finding little in the official database and and there may be updated info that has not yet been added.

Trying to help, not just cut what we have not solidified.

I am specifically focused on the genealogy of James Abner Hitt
Thank you

Peter Whitfield Hitt was born 2 Feb 1834 in Edgefield District, South Carolina and died 16 Aug 1918 in Blount County, Alabama. Peter was a 1/2 Cherokee son of Peter Hitt and his full Cherokee wife Sarah Whitfield. Sarah Whitfield is listed in the 1852 Drennan Cherokee Roll (aka the Trail of Tears Roll).

In about 1857 he married Sarah Jane Mitchell, who was a full Cherokee daughter of Eli Mitchell. Sarah, named for her mother Sarah, went by her middle name "Jane." Jane Mitchell is listed in the 1852 Drennan Cherokee Roll (aka the Trail of Tears Roll).

Peter W. Hitt served in Company B of the 31st Alabama Infantry, C.S.A. during the American Civil War.

Oh, boy, I will need some time to conduct some in depth research on this one! We will need sources other than trees, whether they're Wiki trees, or My Heritage or Family Search, we will look for actual records for James Abner Hitt and his parents.

I will probably have to do this on the weekend as I'm traveling for work the rest of the week, BUT I will try to get some research done while I'm away, I'm pretty sure we can find the right families.

The only references to the name "Whitfield" that I see in the Database are:

Peter Whitfield Hitt b. abt. 1818 in SC, the son of Lazarus Hitt and Edna Fachie
m. Amelia Easley
James Whitfield Hitt b. 1855 in MS with no wife, but a son named John Henry Hitt b. abt.
1871 in TX.

I'll do some digging and see what I can find about the Whitfields and about James Abner Hitt!

Barb

Thank you, Barb

James Abner Hitt is my line, He was married to Joanna Morgan. His parents were Peter Whitfield Hitt and Sarah Jane Mitchell. Peter Whitfield Parents were John Hitt and Catherine Tucker. John Parents were Peter Hitt and Jane Stanfield (this is from marriage Abbevlle South Carolina and my DNA matches to the Stanfield family) Peter Hitt parents were Henry Hitt and and Alice Catherine Holtzclaw.. I am pretty sure Henry Hitt and Catherine is not buried in Jackson Mo. Peter Whitfield Hitt and Whitfield Hitt are two different persons. I don't who came up with Peter Whitfield Hitt
parents as being part Indian named Peter Hitt and Sarah Whitfield.
I have a tree on Ancestry.com that list all the info on my Hitt family please feel free to look at it. It is listed under dubois family tree

Thanks very much for the information, Terry! I took a look at your tree last night, just have some questions about some of the links in that we need sources/records versus an Ancestry Tree, i.e., for the generation of John Hitt and Catherine Tucker. The only record is the 1830 Census and the other source is an Ancestry tree which we can't use as a source.

The other thing that we need to substantiate is the marriage between Peter Hitt b. 1763 and Jane Stanfield as the Abbeville South Carolina source is not definitive as to the exact date:

South Carolina, U.S., Compiled Marriage Index, 1641-1965 Source info
Birth, Marriage & Death

Name Peter Hitt Same
Marriage 1774-1890 Abbeville, South Carolina

The date range of 1774-1890 isn't sufficient for proof of their marriage, so we'll have to do some digging to see if we can find it. BUT, your DNA matches to the Stanfield family are significant. Have you compared trees with your matches and you've found a common ancestor?

Also, while digging last night, I found another descendant that does have circumstantial evidence of the link between Peter Hitt and Jane Stanfield with land records, but I need to verify them!

This is all good and lets share the info that we have! Thanks so much!

Barbara Price, Trustee/Genealogist
The Germanna Foundation
Alice Katherine Holtzclaw is my 6th Great Grand Aunt as I am a descendant of her brother, Johann Henrich/Henry Holzklau/Holtzclaw and his wife, Nancy Ann Hardin

Alice Katherine Hitt Alice Katherine Hitt (Holtzclaw) is my second cousin 7 times removed.
She is buried in the town where two of my sons were born :)

Private Barbara Price, A509195 this makes me so happy! Seeing this come together and the DNA is so very important.

Thank you both so much for working on this!

I am on the edge of my seat to know exactly how we are all related and I am hopeful more folks can add their Germanna lines from the bottom up since Germanna Foundation has done such an excellent job of researching from the top down. It is up to us to fill in the gaps between us and them and I am grateful for such a solid place to build on.

I found the will of William Stanfield, the father of Jane Stanfield, dated 9 Jul 1805 in Abbeville Co., South Carolina. The will names his daughter as Jane Hitt and one of the executors named in the will is Peter Hitt:

"....and I do hereby Nominate appoint and constitute my trusty friend Peter Hitt and John Miles my Executors to this my last will and testament...."

Here's the link to it on FamilySearch:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939L-FXWH-Y?i=193&w...

You'll have to have an account to view the record, but it's free! I had found a transcription of the will, but I thought I would check FamilySearch for the original, just in case, and there it was! So, we know that Peter Hitt married Jane Stanfield, just need to make sure which Peter Hitt this is and who are his parents, which I'm working on!

Cynthia, I would very much like the information about Alice Katherine (Holtzclaw) Hitt and where she's buried! That is really neat and it's also really neat that we're all related!!!
