The national headquarters of this organization are in Louisville Ky., where I reside. I went down to their building for more information about
what exactly was needed to join, proper documentation etc. The reception who didn't seem to know anything, was very nice and friendly.
The man who she summoned, who I believe was the director or perhaps the museum curator, was not. He was brusque and almost
rude, he gave me a pamphlet and terminated the brief conversation as soon as he could. I distinctly remember his scoffing at my
remarking that I had genetic proof, due to my Y-DNA test, that confirmed my assertion that I was a direct descendant of a
revolutionary soldier. In that brief 5 minutes at the front desk of this organizations, national headquarters, I learned
exactly what this organization was, and was not.

You really can't judge "exactly what this organization was, and was not" by talking to a single individual. What you should have done perhaps was contact the SAR Genealogist of your local Chapter, which in Louisville is the Brevard Chapter. Further I would suggest you gather all the necessary documentation for each generation starting with yourself, going backwards in time to the generation of your Patriot Ancestor - as much as you are able, then approach the Chapter Genealogist and he will further advise you of what you need. Also I imagine Y-DNA doesn't prove "direct descent", perhaps collateral decent but not necessarily direct line.
Thank you for responding to my post, I sincerely appreciate that. You remarked that I couldn't judge this organization by "a single individual", perhaps not the national organization, but I can certainly get an impression from the man in charge.
As for "going to my "local chapter in Louisville", that's where I went. That's where I met the "director" who snubbed me. who knows, he might even be the chapters "Genealogist" as well.
I will follow your advice, and try again. Perhaps if I wear a suit and tie, Perhaps then I might be considered possibly worthy enough to be a descendant of a Revolutionary War veteran, who was himself the direct descendant of one of the founders of Newport R.I. and etc.etc.
Thank you for your consideration,
William T. Phillips
