Mike Stangel & Private User, I see there is a new Attribution field for Photos. Can we get this exposed via the API for read/write?

I noticed it too, but not sure for what to use it. I experienced some days also that, while hoovering over some photo;s, two verbs from the titel popped up, but later I could not reproduce that. There are now ThREE possibilities to add text, but what is for what? I was used to use the titel phrase for © and autor/painter etc. informatie e/o de source of the picture, but now everything is changing and I do have to change -maybe???- to change all information in my photograph albums.

Sorry for my english, very difficult to explain what I am bothering about in a non-native language, but I am puzzling about it already some days.

Jeanette:

I understand the intent of the "Attribution" field is 'to attribute' / to declare where the image comes from, or, where the image was "collected from".

That is different from the "name" (title) of the image and different yet from "who originally created it" or "artist".

yes, I can understand that and it seems a very good idea, for till now you had no way to take responsibility for the origine of the photo or painting etc. But are they planning to edit the titel --or the first two words-- in the picture of the picture on the Geni-platform? If so, I really have to do a hell of a job to change all my pictures....

Done!

Now I see what bothered me: they call it CAPTIONS on the photo-lists in projectpages and now you can choose to show them or not...

Why are the techneuten van Geni so shy in giving explanation on new features? Or are the Dutch curators too little informed about technical news to instruct us HOW & WHY to use it. More information-, instruction- a/o communication-skills in the management-people would make this platform far more in demand for professional researchers in other area's than genealogy alone, I'm sure of that... Curators, it's NOT enough for you to know the technique for yourself, you have to SHARE your knowledge with ALL the users, otherwise they choose for other interfaces...

This is a discussion connected to the Geni API project.

API stands for Application Programming Interface, and unless you work with computer programming and want to make an app that connects to the Geni API this is probably information that is not useful for you.

yes, this way the discussion is closed again without a proper reaction. Where do I have to post my questions about new relaeases.

and why do you suggest I am not working in programming?

Because you asked for three days ago what an API was.

And if you want info about new releases wait a minute...

Ha ha, you did not realize the scope of my question, that's clear. I learned programming already in the seventies, at that time you started with FORTRAN and years later I worked with relational databases in dBIII, dBIV and so on, so is it a shame I am not used to talk in modern API-language?

Anyhow: If you want to focus on releases: Take a look here: https://www.geni.com/dna-tests/faq

We don't announce every small feature.. the captions were a little side project we did to "scratch an itch" as they say.

Mike Stangel Thanks for your answer, I appreciate that. The captions are a little, but for photo-users important change and gives me a lot of work to do. But I will go on, for I am a adept of this platform. And I will think about the need how we can promote new releases --also the little ones-- with more instructions in Dutch, so also new users don't get confused in the wood of opportunities Geni offers....

Are you planning to edit the captions also on the profile-page? For that has implications how to use it... For the technicians a little, maybe non-important issue, but I am always working on improving the image of the page I create. That is the focus of a publisher, you see? In that respect I HATE the --too-- prominent place of the --sometimes overwheling amount of-- smart-matches... But no-one is asking the opinion of a general user, that is also my experience.
