I was looking over my ancestors and noticing this profile for William Hodgkins, II. It says he has two sets of parents...and one of them does not seem to make sense. One shows a father with the name Clement Palmer Deering who is younger than William. Did someone merge something that caused little issue here?

My initial information was from Mary A Hodgkins wife of Norris Hodgkins then I found a book by Eben Hodgkins which took the family back to William but in the last year, I have found much conflicting info.
I researched in Hancock County Maine and thought I had documented the family however I am finding items in the online tree that do not match what I have in the computer. Would appreciated information that you have documented the differences. Right now I am not to happy what is on line

I've notified the curator. Look at Revisions. There may be a recent merge that can be undone by a curator.

There was a very odd merger of Captain John Deering, Sr. with William Hodgkins, of Ipswich

I just undid that merge. Let me know if things are back to acceptable and contact the curator if there are additional questions or concerns.

A couple of William Hodgkins' grandchildren (from son Christopher) ended up being children of John Deering. I fixed that and also merged in another Hodgkins tree. I have not resolved conflicts yet, but something weird did happen in the Hodgkins tree because Grace Dutch also had multiple parents, one set of which made no sense at all.

And it looks like the bad merge was from the time when a bug in Geni automatically suggested some erroneous merges. That has been fixed, but if people see merges that make no sense, they should not accept them.

Thank you Hatte Rubenstein Blejer Things look a little more believable now it seems! :-)

Barbee FAYE Hodgkins, I wish i had something valuable to add... I can get back to my ancestor Betsey Babson it seems and that connects to information on the Babson Historical Association site so that is the link that led me here I believe...

I am certainly enjoying reading info on people that could be my ancestors, but i'm relying on others info going this far back here :-)

John

Thank you John Dale Kessel. I found many other weird merges, done around March 12th. I suspect that there was a glitch because the merges made no sense.

Because you started this thread, I caught and cleaned up about a dozen bad merges such as Temperance Deering and Deborah Dunn.

They involved Hodgkins, Dunn, Deering, Fernald, Dutch, Grindall, Kindsmen, Howard, Milk and other surnames.

Thank goodness for undo merge, but even so I had to move stranded children after the undo merge took effect.

Tabitha Howard and Deborah Dunn.

I don't remember who was merged with Temperance Fernald, but it was equally odd.

Okay, Temperance Deering and Grace Hodgkins. See what I mean?

William Howard, of Ipswich and Nicholas Dunn, Jr. were merged, another very strange merge.

I have asked other curators if they know of a Geni glitch around that time.

Hatte & John,

Thank you so much for your work on this. I can only think it was a strange computer glitch.

The good thing is you get to explore new profiles. :)

Thanks again.
