Ignoring for the moment Mike's "Pier / Jean Pierre" theory our best evidence for the name of Catharina's father seems to be as per McCracken:

In The American Genealogist; Vol 35; Mr. George McCracken writes: "A sufficient number of instances appear in the Dutch manuscript records in which Catalyntje is recorded as Catalyntje Jeronymus to make it certain that her father was named Jeronymus in Dutch or Jerome in French."

Now as we all know Jerome and Joris are not the same name, so why does the profile currently have the name that it does, ie Joris Jeronimus Jan?

Can anyone tell when and by whom the name was originally set?
How likely is it that "Joris" in this case is just a mistaken cross reference to her husband?
Where does "Jan" (Dutch version of "Jean") come into things, it might help with Mike's theory but only if it has a valid origin.

I tried looking through revisions but I can't see what the original profile name was; frankly if it was from a GED upload (likely) I wouldn't trust it.

Joris does seem like it's been acquired thru association with Cat's husband.

Have we verified whether patronymics were in use in Hanault? Are there Dutch records?

This article is wrong but interesting and does list the possible archives where original material for Valenciennes and Prisches might be held.

No hits on search terms: Trico, Tricault

OK I found an old DAR (daughters of the American revolution) document; looks like part of a membership application from 1946. Says Cat was the daughter of "Joris Trico."

Not a reliable source.

I assume that archives for Prs are now French. I am only finding Dutch records for marriages, just uploaded Margrit's.

Unfortunately Amsterdam isn't my usual sphere of interest nor Haarlem so it's a bit hit and miss at the moment. Family Search has the marriage records scanned but not indexed and dont seem to have the betrothals at all.

Why upload and link an"unreliable source"? Doesn't it detract from the value of the useful "reliable" sources?

No. It explains where the bad info could come from. To chase up "every time" is a total time waste. This is a doc from an ancestry tree which means zillions are / could share it; only on Geni we can compare it with other sources.

We do this in the English late medieval tree all the time; load the source docs and note the conflicts. Much much easier to see & understand.

Nice link! Those archives would be great to access (!!)

Fair enough

I think it would be a good idea to lock Jerome's name fields and death date.

I have tidied his About a little but at this point still have no actual evidence for him.

Do you think we should sever parents?

I agree, Alex, to both points, with one caveat - the "shown parent" profiles could be clues. So the way we do it is to add a comment to the overview:

No evidence to support [Jan Trico Jan Trico] or [T Trico T Trico] as fathers. Disconnected Sept 2014.

I suspect that "Jan" had crept into the middle name field but was supposed to be a patronymic "Jan[szoon]". That would indicate that Jan T is the correct father, but that is a circular argument based on zero evidence.

Sadly i located the marriage banns of both Triko sisters and neither mentions their parents names.
