I have commented recently in the Collaboration Pool discussion ( http://www.geni.com/discussions/74031?msg=803919 ) that people continue to post @yourname in that thread.
While it is simple enough for us to Unfollow, there is a chance that those people who post in this way are not actually joining the current project and so missing out on the benefits.
The most reasonable explanation i can think of for this is that there are two sets of instructions on the project page. While i do not find the reason behind this confusing it is possible that non-native English speakers may be confused.
I propose removing the following section from the project page:
"
Greetings all...

One of the most frustrating/irritating thing about geni (for me) is the time consuming nature of trying to get enough permissions to fix many areas of the tree.

I, currently, have 398 collaborators... a number it's taken me more than a year to accumulate, and I still run into large areas where I have no permissions to work in.

So I propose a solution to this, in this very thread.

My solution is simple... post here with "@yourname" to indicate your willingness to join the "Collaboration Pool".

The rules are simple: 1.) if you post here, you are indicating your willingness to accept any collaboration request from anyone else who posts here 2.) before you can send a collaboration request from someone in this thread, you *MUST* post your name here (reciprocity) 3.) you may remove your name at any time by deleting your post 4.) you must respect the deleted posts as 'out of bounds' (ie., *DO NOT* send a request to a user who has deleted their post here) 5.) a post in this thread *without* the "@yourname"... is *NOT* an entrant in this pool

If enough people join in this effort, we can, rapidly, remove many of the prior barriers to fixing this mess.

_______"

I am willing to make he change but i wanted to seek some consensus here first.
Give me your opinions fellow Genies.

Rather than just completely deleting the text it could be replaced with a brief note explaining there was a different system in place previously but not giving too much detail?

Alex Moes since no has raised an objection to your suggestion, I believe you have the portfolio to go ahead and edit the project overview.

ditto

A reasonable assumption Erica but Eldon's comments in the other discussion indicate that at least some people disagree :)
I'm swayed by Eldon's comments that the old method was easier but that raises the question of why the change was instituted?

Your name is next to the oldest page revision that i can see, do you have any history to educate us why the attempt was made to shift away from @yourname?

Also take note of the concept of tagging yourself so we know whom to collaborate with AND that you have assented. Eldon Lester Clark pointed out that using the@ symbol to tag is difficult. If you post, your Geni profile shows on the left. So nice simple language, step by step, would be great in the project overview.

Go ahead, Alex.

Talking about important languages, since a week or so only, my preset language of English deafults into German each time I reload Geni - only because I right now live in Germany. This is fully unacceptable IMHO.
While known from Google to some extent, we are not Google (as yet, I hope) and when I chose a language I want my setting to stick to that language.
Not that I have any problems with german, but the German computer vocabulary is cumbersome and often ridiculous. Not practical for me at all.

Did I say "Wow!!!"

Oh dear - it worked so well that it hypertexted my first sentence. Which was:

The @ Sharon has just worked for me for the first time EVER since I've been on Geni!

(Sorry for calling you no reason Justin and Bjorn - but yours are the names that I usually have difficulty getting into hypertext.)

Sten Waldö thanks for the bug report, we are aware of it and intend to release a fix today.

Good - since I'm going to Italy tomorrow for a week :) No problems with Italian either, but English remains my language of choice for this site - for many obvious reasons.

This bug is still not fixed...

I think you will find that this has been fixed, I just used it to join the Collaboration Project. My experience is that is enough to just type @you to get a list which includes a reference to my profile.

@beverlyJoan Petrice...I have sent 4 profiles with updated information on all 4 profiles ...I would like them to be made Master Profiles unless someone can provide information to the opposite of my findings....John Anderson of Colrain, Margaret Anderson(Stewart), Elizabeth/Elisabeth Wiseman (Anderson), John Anderson, Charles Stewart I repeat they are on the Collaboration Pool page...and as always thank you and best wishes....

Hi Beverly Joan Petrice
The Collaboration Project is for users of Geni who wish to Collaborate together, there is no reason to add profiles to this Project.

If you wish to request profiles be made into MPs please make that request at https://www.geni.com/discussions/166171 by posting the http;// address of those particular profiles.

ok sorry about that .....So I will do that next time....Thank you very much
