Hello Cuzzins
This is a discussion thread for anyone to post anything that they see that can be done in the South African tree or projects as a way to communicate this to others. .
We could then follow this thread and anyone could paticipate where they have an interest...
Often people offer help too, and we don't quite know how to always channel assistance. So this will help with that too..
...and anyone who likes to co-operate-o-collaborate with geni-Dutchies are welcome to participate in some co-alitions of members with the same addiction:
http://www.geni.com/projects/Portaal-voor-Nederlandstaligen
http://www.geni.com/projects/International-Dutch-Portal
and if you meet there an interesting profiel you want to work with to get more ancestors abroad, please don't be shy and invite them to collaborate, but be aware of introducing yourself in a short way so for us it's of no use to be afread to link & klink together. Bye and see you overseas too, o.k.?
Geveg van Bloedrivier / Battle of Blood river Project
I've added the names of those at the battle of Bloodriver to the project.
http://www.geni.com/projects/Battle-of-Bloodriver-Geveg-van-Bloedri...
Things to do:
*Help search the tree for them. Link their profiles and edit the Project page so that one can also drill down from the list to their profiles.
Interestingly enough the De Villiers numberscome in very handy here as many of the list items have them. How accurate they are, I don't know, but we will find out shortly ;-).. Simply type the surname an number into search .. eg Uys b1c5d2e12
*I think we can do with more of an Edit the concise summary to be an easy and interesting read and also reflect accurately a very brief overview. Just the basics as the linked internet sites are very good and detailed I think.
*Add any unlinked profiles as you come accross them in your tree building. It may be nice to note the most interesting thing we may know about someone. Look at Cowie as an example..
*Specialists in a particular surname, may want to help find and build the missing links.
There are a number of interesting aspects to this. From a tree perspective we have a good structure in place up to about 1800. This event is part of the tree which is at the edge of where the biggest growth in the tree is taking place and it will be interesting because the project will indicate how the tree is maturing up to 1838.
We have a better chance than most to find the missing information. There are still many who have not been specifically verified or defined. I've spent some time for instance on: 318.Robbertse I - Fun
For me personally this is very very interesting project as many of my ggggrandparents were on this Trek.
I share a name with Pieter Mauritz Retief.. a Preller family name - and this relation shows one of these Potgieter, Preller, Pretorius family links:
Hi Jeannette
Indeed.. We share so many aspects where it will be great to work closer together and I have a few initiatives I've been thinking about and will bring to the Netherlands forums in the coming days. One of them that links in with what me and you are doing around the VOC already.. is to track and see if we can solve specifically our dutch progenitors who we have not managed to link back to NL yet.. I think we are now able to start to do things - no one else has ever been able to, as we are able to start focusing on the missing pieces as opposed to the traditional you only have enough time to figure your own family out.
Genealogical societies would also envy the type of collaborative team we are building up.
A Big thanks for your help already on Bloodriver btw!!!
I see I posted the wrong relationship link above: http://www.geni.com/path/Pieter+Mauritz+RETIEF+is+related+to+Gustav...
Eish, and the link to the project http://www.geni.com/projects/Battle-of-Bloodriver-Geveg-van-Bloedri...
Another one Project that I just don't get time for is: http://www.geni.com/projects/South-African-Stamouers-Progenitors-Ma...
Help would be appreciated to setup the Timeline events and start linking the passengers on the Project page.
Maybe you can suggest a appropiate, accurate & actual URL with a time-table where to find enough luggage to fill a coffin to look at and maybe.....this may-flower can help you a little bit further, for I type with my toes and think with my fingers, so plenty enough to see, read & hear other countries too, you know?
I'm doing so in Europe about our medieval struggles with the Mediterrenean brothers :

Another fun project where we are moving forward slowly piece by piece, but where there is a lot of setup work in particular with:
* setting up timelines
* linking profiles to the project and timelines

Help identifiseer watter stamvaders is nog nie by SV/PROG bygevoeg nie.. ons kort so 120...(546 in projek vs 662 op query)
Mauritz en familie -
This is a great idea
I have the following suggestions:
1) Can someone add any Springbok rugby players to the Famous South Africans page:
http://www.geni.com/projects/Famous-South-Africans ?
2) I'm getting lots of suggestions for the Geni Cuzzin Country SA 'blog' discussion (the latest, some great photos of the Labuschagne family reunion from Private User), but people rather tell me in my inbox than put it on the page http://www.geni.com/discussions/98248. I could do with help thinking through / doing (? :-) whether a SA Cuzzins FaceBook page or something else would be a good idea - and we could add pictures to that.
3) I'm half way through adding all the French Huguenot settlers to a page for us all to cross reference from: http://www.geni.com/projects/French-Huguenot-Settlers-in-the-Cape-SA, but am doing Charlemagne maintenance duty at the moment, and would LOVE help getting all our Huguenot ancestors added, and hypertexted (? is that a word? - meaning click-on links to the Project front page)
http://www.geni.com/projects/CUZZIN-COUNTRY-Index-of-South-African-...
Maybe talk to Private User about setting up a Labaschugne page and linking it in here too.
(But first add your story to our family blog).
I've started listing the the Rugby players as per your note above, Sharon and this is now morphing also into a few fun spin off projects. Rugby fans are invited to please join as collaborators and jump in.
http://www.geni.com/projects/South-African-Rugby-Hall-of-Fame could possibly be summarised back into famous South-African's, but for the moment is intended to be a little wider in application. I would for instance not link Bakkies Botha into Famous South Africans next to Frik du Preez or Naas Botha? Or should we?
Also teamed up with the New Zealander's to create:
http://www.geni.com/projects/Rugby-World-Cup-2011-Teams
Jason has been at it quite some time already and has quite a few NZ players connected to the tree already. I'm going to need help to start doing the same for South African players. Fans are invited to pick their favourite player and see if a little focus can get them connected to the tree.
Anyone close to anyone in the team partipating in Geni, please let me know. Maybe we can ask them to claim their profiles when they BRING US HOME THAT RUGBY WORLD CUP!!
see also:
http://www.geni.com/projects/Ambachten-Beroepen
but I think it better to have a project that can focus not on a salary-scale but just for the OLYMPIC players of all kinds of sports. What about a koepel-project with the name:
We are the Champions.....!
Ohjee, how do I write Kampioenen in het Engels?
I made some salary-seekers allready in:
http://www.geni.com/projects/prof-Tennissers-in-de-familie
http://www.geni.com/projects/Wielrenners-in-de-familie
but I think that'n not a good route for bikers like us, Dutchies...
...and this one is only for people who like to stay at home...
http://www.geni.com/projects/Hobby-passie-of-verslaving
..and not for RUGBY-players on a GLOBAL level, don't you think?
Fun SV/PROG Competition and Project to look out for and participate in..
