Noble family von Krogh
The noble family von Krogh originates from around the area of Bremen and is a German Uradel (original nobility) family. The term Uradel refers to noble families whose ancestral lineage may be traced back to times before the Late Middle Ages, specifically to before either the year 1350 or 1400. It contrasts with Briefadel (lit. “letter nobility”), titles created by the monarch via letters patent, a French practice which was introduced in Germany under Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor (r. 1346–1378).
A Briefadel (lit. “letter nobility”) confirmed the family's nobility in a document from the 8th June 1870 after the Duchies of Bremen and Verden, were unified into the North German Confederation of the Kingdom of Prussia. This was also later confirmed in Berlin 4th June 1875.
During the Early Modern Period (1500-1800) the family spread to much of Denmark and Norway as most of the family were in military service to the Danish Kings, who held the Kingdoms of Denmark-Norway and the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein which were part of the Holy Roman Empire.
Coat of Arms
The von Krogh coat of arms is on a blue shield which has a silver castle with two towers, between which are four raised gold morning stars. It has a crowned helmet with a white greyhound wearing a gold collar, which is between two blue and white split wings.
The coat of arms can also be found on the 26 May 1818 Danish patent for land count Lerche-Lerchenborg when Christian Cornelius Lerche (1770-1852) was ennobled as a land count. He was the first born son of Georg Flemming Lerche (1735-1804) and Hedwig Catharina von Krogh (1739-1818)
