a digital copy of the Marriage Bond/Allegation for the Diocese of Durham, England which records the marriage of Christopher Hutchinson and Ann Towsey in 1748 - interesting because it means they didn't have the banns read on three consecutive Sundays in the local Parish Church as normal - Christopher promised a bond of 200 pounds to the Church as surety that there was no impediment to the marriage and was given a Special Licence. If it turned out there was a problem, previous marriage, bride underage then he'd lose the money. It shows he had a bit of capital behind him and they didn't want to wait!
