About the Holt surname

origins

England

The native britons are mainly from the North West of the country. Lancashire, Cheshire etc.

There is a second branch from the Home counties, mainly in the Vale of Aylesbury. These were mainly located in the area of Winslow, Particularly the villages of Grendon Underwood, Edgecot (Edgcot) and Twyford. DNA testing of "Y" chromosome on members of this family put it in Haplogroup J2. This is found around the coastal areas of the Mediterranean, Greece Italy and as far east as the fertile crescent (Modern day Iraq)

The vale of Aylebury area and the area around the villages mentioned above is on the crossroads of 2 Roman roads. Maybe this is a good indication of our origins, remembering that Britain was occupied by the Romans for nearly 200 years.

(It appears that there are at least five separate Holt/Holte families in England.)
