The Burroughs last name originally derives from the French name 'de' Burgh'. It was brought into England, Ireland and Scotland by the de Burgh family. Hubert de Burgh arrived in Ireland early in the 11th century and from the de Burgh name derived Burgh, bourke, burr, burke, borrows, burris, Burroughs and many other variations of the name. My 3rd great grand father Raymond Burroughs came to America landing on the shore of Maryland at the age of @18 in 1787, from County Mayo Ireland.
