About the Beall surname

My grandmother was Helen Beall b. SEP 1873 in Travis County (Austin) Texas. She married David Franklin Houston in Travis County, DEC 1895. They had five children: Duval Beall and Helen Elizabeth both died young in Texas. David Franklin Jr., Helen Beall Houston, and Lawrence Reid Houston survived and were raised in Washington DC. D.F. Houston Sr. later became Secretary of Agriculture and of the Treasury under President Woodrow Wilson.

Helen Beall's mother was Jennie Turner (Beall) the daughter of Judge Ezekiel Butler Turner and Helen Dodge Turner who had moved to Texas in 1853 from Centreville, Michigan. I finally was able to document this when I learned that Helen Dodge had been previously married, I gather, and was then Helen Bishop.

Helen Beall's father was DuVal Beall, dairyman, on the Travis County census of 1880. He also shows up on the 1850 census for Travis County as age 18. He was the son of Samuel Beall and Elizabeth DuVal who were married in Bardstown, KY OCT 1833. This family is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.

I cannot document it, but my belief is that Samuel Beall was the son of Samuel Beall Sr. of Williamsburg, VA who went to Kentucky in 1801 and was awarded several Kentucky land patents. Samuel Sr. died when Samuel Jr was still young and Norborne (Norbenne) Brooke Beall became his guardian. Norborne BROOKE Bealle is not to be confused with Norborne BOOTH Bealle of Spring Station, KY, who married Ann Maupin.

Thank you for allowing this post; hope it helps some Bealle brick walls!
