Barrett family is from County Cork in Ireland. Our great grandfather Anthony Barrett emigrated from Castlemagner In County Cork and settled in Towanda, Pa. He worked on building a feeder canal called the Chemung Canal that was to be partof the Erie Canal. His wife Mary Hanlon (O"Hanlon), her mother was a Burke, was related to the famous Edmond Burke. Anthony's and Mary's son was named Edmond. They emigrated here during the time of the famine, a young son died on board the ship.
