William de Moravia, was Lord of Petyn/Petty, Brachlie and Boharm. He died before 15 Oct 1226

FRESKIN, allegedly of Flemish origins, granted large estates by DAVID I, including Strabrock, W Lothian, and Duffus, Moray; confirmed in these by roy charter 1166–71; diedby 1172, leaving:

• WILLIAM; of age by 1160; seems to have died in or after 1204, having had, with two younger sons

• (William de Moravia (i.e., ‘of Moray') living 1195, died by 1226, alleged ancestor of the MORAYs OF BOTHWELL;

William, known as William son of William, son of Freskin. He and his brother Hugh frequently appear together as witnesses after 1195.[4] He also, about 1200 or later, assumed the sirname 'de Moravia,' and in a charter about that date refers to Hugh as 'his lord and brother,' which proves the latter's seniority.[5] He was lord of Petty and Bracholy, Boharm and Arteldol, and died before 1226. He is believed to be the ancestor of the Morays of Bothwell.

<William de Moravia, according to numerous grants and other deeds, in the archives of the episcopal see of Moray, s. his father in 1200, in those records he is described " Willielmus filius Willielnii filii Friskini." He subsequently made a donation to the church of Spynie, as appears by a charter in the chartulary of Moray, wherein he states that " Hugone, fratre mco," is a witness. He seems to have wedded the daughter and heiress of David de Olifard, justiciary of Loudoun, in the reign of Alexander II, to have acquired by her the lands of BOTHWELL, and to have had* a son and heir, Walter de Moravia...

• Besides Walter, his heir, this William had other sons, " who," continues Chalmers, " propogated the name of Moray, by founding other houses, one of which was the Murrays, of Tullibardine, now represented by the duke of Athol,"
