We have conflicting information about William Finley.
Minor: Birthdate. Ancestry.com says 6 Mar 1712; Roots Web says 6 May 1712; and FamilySearch says Jun 1712. Mar vs May could be a transcription error. Jun could be a baptism date.
Major: the "Glasgow Family History" says
"Wm. Finley, Sr. of Augusta Co. Va., md. Martha Steele, dau. of Samuel Steele, in 1758. Augusta Co. included nearly all of West Va., Ky., Ohio, Ind. Ill. and part of western Pa. The Finley's first settled at Oxford, Pa., then Wm. and son Robt. went to Staunton, Va. to Tinkling Springs congregation...." Glasgow Family History, p 31
However, all the other sources I have say that William married Mary Wallace in 1734 and that William's son Robert married Martha Steele in 1767. The birth dates support the latter.
