Thomas Woodard Jr., son of Thomas Woodard and Lydia LangstonWoodard was born in Dobbs Co., North Carolina on November 28, 1744. The maiden name of his wife Elizabeth (Crumpler) has not showed up yet in records, nor the date of his death, but he apparently died in Sumter County, South Carolina about 1835. (Update: died 1832 in Sumter District, South Carolina).
In 1771, Thomas Woodard participated in the famous War of the Regulation in North Carolina and was also a Sergeant, being number 44 on the list of Captain John Shearranrd's Company of Military from Dobbs County. In the spring of 1779, according to his Revolutionary War Pension Application made on November 4, 1832, in Sumpter District South Carolina he enlisted as a private in Captain Joseph Williamson's Company, Major John Drake's Regiment of North Carolina Militia, and served a "tour" of three months in Nash and Johnson Counties pursuing and repressing the Tories. Early in 1781 he entered another brief period of service in North Carolina Horse Troops or Calvary in Captain Michael Kenan's Regiment. They engaged in a number of skirmishes with the numerous Tories in Sampson, Duplin, and Onslow Counties/ He was honorably discharged in July of 1781 at "Rock Fish" then called Cross Creek in the vicinity of the present Fayettesville.
In the Johnston County North Carolina Census of 1790, Thomas Woodard was listed with two males over sixteen, four males under sixteen, seven females, and one slave. In 1791, Thomas Woodard of Johnston County sold William Richardson two hundred and fifty acres south of Great Buffalo Swamp at the mouth of Cattail Branch.
On January 11, 1793, Thomas Woodard of Johnston County and Jesse Woodard of Nash County sold to Luke Woodard for 1,500 current North Carolina money all their rights to Lands in Wayne County from the estate of late Isaac Woodard.
On February 13, 1795, Thomas Woodard of Johnston County sold to Hardy Williamson for fifteen pounds in currency one hundred acres south of Contentnea Creek witnessed by Thomas Woodard Jr. and Elizabeth Woodard.
On March 15, 1799, Thomas Woodard Sr. of Johnston County sold to Thomas Woodard Jr. L 200 in specie one hundred and fifty acres south of Contentnea Creek adjoining Hardy Williamson.
Sometime in 1800, Thomas Woodard moved to the area of Singleton's Crossroads, a little south of Bishopville in Sumpter County South Carolina. On January 21, 1802, Thomas Woodard sold to Wyly Ford ten acres that "said Woodard now lives on."On December 2, 1805, Thomas Woodard Sr. to Joseph Lockhart nine acres from an old grant to Dennis McClendon. On January 19, 1807, Thomas Woodard Sr. sold to James Kelly one hundred acres "where one William Wheatly now lives." On February 21, 1810, Thomas Woodard and Isaac and Nancy Woodard sild to John Reed of Kershaw District consisting of parts of former grants to Dennis McClendon and Willis Turberville. On November 5, 1825, Thomas Woodard bought fifty acres from a Williams in Sumpter District.
