"Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk, KG, PC, Earl Marshal (1443 – 21 May 1524), styled Earl of Surrey from 1483 to 1514, was the only son of John Howard, 1st Duke of Norfolk, by his first wife, Katherine Moleyns. The Duke was the grandfather of both Queen Anne Boleyn and uncle to Queen Katherine Howard and the great grandfather of Queen Elizabeth I. He served four monarchs as a soldier and statesman."

  • Thomas was named Earl of Surrey in 1483 to 1485, and in 1489 to 1514. He became 2nd Duke of Norfolk on 1 February 1514.
  • Thomas was knighted on 14 January 1478 by King Edward IV.
  • Thomas served King Henry VII as Lord High Treasurer.
  • Thomas served King Henry VIII as the Earl Marshal.

2nd Duke of Norfolk was born to John Howard, 1st Duke of Norfolk and Catherine Moleyns. Thomas married 1st Elizabeth Tilney, dau of Sir Frederick Tilney & Elizabeth Cheney on 30 Apr 1472. His 2nd marriage was to Agnes Tylney, dau of Hugh Tylney, on 17 Aug 1497. He was also reported to have been married on 17 August 1487. He died on 21 May 1524 at Framlingham Castle, Framlingham, Suffolk, England. He was buried on 26 June 1524 at Thetford Abbey, Norfolk, England. After the dissolution of Thetford Priory, the Howard tombs were moved to the Church of St Michael the Archangel, Framlingham. A now-lost monumental brass depicting the 2nd Duke was formerly in the Church of St. Mary at Lambeth.
