1721 - 1760 H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Sulaiman Badr ul-'Alam Shah Khalifat ul-Muminim ibni al-Marhum Sultan 'Abdu'l Jalil Ri'ayat Shah, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Johor and Pahang and their dependencies. b. 11th November 1699, fifth son of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l Jalil IV Ri'ayat Shah Zillu'llah fi al-'Alam bin Dato' Bendahara Sri Maharaja Tun Habib Ghazi, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Johor and Pahang and their dependencies, by his fourth wife, Encik Nusamah, educ. privately. Appointed as Governor of Pahang, following the rebellion against his uncle, the Yang di-Pertuan Muda 1712. Appointed as Heir Apparent with the title of Yang di-Pertuan Muda before 28th December 1715. Raised to the throne with the help of the Bugis princes after they had expelled Raja Kechil, 1721. Crowned at Riau with the tile of Paduka Sri Sultan Sulaiman Badr ul-'Alam Shah Khalifat ul-Muminim, 4th October 1722. Thereafter shared Royal power with the Bugis. Entered into a Treaty with the Dutch at Malacca on 6th January 1756, and surrendered his nominal authority over Rembau, Sungei Ujong, Johol, Nanning and Linggi to them on 12th December 1757. m. (first) Encik Puan Perak. m. (second) Wan Mak, daughter of the Dato' Laksamana. m. (third) Cik Sunah. He d. in Riau, 20th August 1760 (bur. Batangan),
