If you heard all these descriptive words mentioned in a row, professional bodybuilder, fitness guru, Mr. America, Mr. Universe, charismatic muscular actor with the body fit for a greek statue known best for playing superpowered heroes who is hated by critics. Who would you think of? Were not speaking of Arnold Scwarzenegger but his idol. Steve Reeves. Without Steve there would be no Arnold. In his earliest interviews Arnold consistently raves about Mr. Reeves. He was his idol and who he strove to be. He wanted to look just like Steve Reeves he wanted to be a movie star like Steve Reeves.
Arnold wasn't Steves only fan.He inspired others. Winston Churchill, Sylvester Stallone, James Dean, Burt Reynolds, Willie Mays and Jesse Owens. Then there was bodybuilder turned actor David Prouse, who portrayed Darth Vader.
Of course bodybuilding fanatics, big and small, old and young, male and female credit him with inspiration.
Mr. America and Mr. Universe winer and the actor who portrayed the first live action Incredible Hulk, Lou Ferrigno, Said this.
Immortal is the least word used to describe Steve Reeves. His photographs are just fantastic. He symbolized the perfect physique, and he was a legend in his own time. He has been a great inspiration to many of us in the field of bodybuilding.
The Downtown Athletic Club of New York which annually sponsors The Heisman Trophy, created the Steve Reeves Award. The award is given each year to a person who has made notable contributions to fitness and sports during their lifetime.
I believe one can be satisfied with their life even if they didnt reach their goals if they find something that soothes their soul. Steve retired from acting bought a ranch and raised horses like his fellow Montanan, Gary Cooper. Cooper was Steve Reeves inspiration and idol.
