About Stephen Foss(e)
Below is the most recent info. We will put up the descendants of 'this' John Foss as soon as documented names can be found.
There were two John Fosses aboard the British war ship. John Foss, the ship's caulker also came to America, almost at the same time as Johan Foss, but was forcibly brought from England in chains as a prisoner of the British Army, for some crime committed back in mother England, to serve as a laborer in the colonies. It was this John Foss that apparently escaped from custody, jumping ship in Portsmouth harbor, swimming ashore, and making a new life for himself, eventually marrying a Mary Berry. Rumor has it that the British didn't consider him important enough to waste time conducting a search to bring him to justice. Anyway, it was John's and Mary's son, William Foss, who married Sarah Buswell. John's father was Stephen Fosse, born about 1603, husband of Mary Jackson, born about 1613. Mary Jackson's father was John Jackson, born 1591, died 1632, husband of Christiane Furneis. His ancestors probably came from Norway, not Denmark. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=messageList&contribId... - - - - - - -
