Roger la Zouche of Petersfield and Maple Durham (died 1238), was the second son of Alan de Porhoët (c1136-1190) Alice de Belmeis, daughter of Philip de Belmeis of Tong and Ashby and his wife Maud, one of the Meschines family of Chester.
He was Sheriff of Devonshire. King John gave him a number of manors confiscated from the Mandeville family. He married Margaret (died p1220) and had four children: (1) Alan, see below; (2) Eon, see below under Haryngworth; (3) William, whose daughter Joyce married Robert de Mortimer of Richard's Castle; their descendants much later adopted the Zouche name, see below under Mortimer; and (4) Alice, married in 1250 Sir William de Harcourt of Stanton Harcourt.
Notes: for his fidelity to King John, had a grant from that monarch of the manors of Petersfield and Maple Durham, co. Southampton, part of the lands of Geoffrey De Mandeville, one of the rebellious barons then in arms. In the next reign he was Sheriff of Devonshire, and had further grants from the crown.
Younger son, heir to brother William 1199. Sheriff of Devonshire
