The Lands of Railston

It should be noticed that the land called Railston is located in the Cunningham division of Ayrshire, formerly the barony of Cunningham, NRS: GD150/89 and that the land called Ralston, now part of Paisley, is located in Renfrewshire, formerly the barony of Renfrew. NRS: GD26/3/1115 Sir John Stewart of Railston had no connection with Ralston in Renfrewshire. According to Gilbert Burnett, Lyon King of Arms, writing in volume four of the Exchequer Rolls of Scotland: "His lands of Ralston (sic) are described as in the barony of Cunninghame, and are therefor not to be identified with Ralston near Paisley, which gives its name to the family of Ralston of that Ilk." Exchequer Rolls IV: p. clxxxviii
