First wife was Elizabeth Mason, second wife was Mary Wright. Their son Jesse Clement married Mary Polly Martin, the legitimate daughter of slave owner Abraham Martin. Abraham Martin had a child with one of his slaves. That child, James Powell Martin, was adopted by Mary Polly Martin and Jesse Clement. In order to raise him, Mary Polly Martin and Jesse Clement had to leave Virginia (due to race laws).

William Right Served in Capt. James Upshaw's company, 2nd Virginia Regiment Commanded by Christian Febiger, Esq. During the War of the Revolution. Records show William served one and a half years as a sergeant at the rate of $8.00 per month.
