Sarah Bassett was born say 1628 in Plymouth Colony to parents Elizabeth and William Bassett, Sr.[1] William and Elizabeth were present and accounted for in the 1727 Plymouth cattle division, but Sarah was not on this list.
Sarah Bassett married before 6 March 1648/9 Peregrine White,[1] On 6 Mar 1648/9, "Peregrin White, and Sara, his wife, both of Marshfield" were presented to the court for fornication before marriage or contract. They were cleared by paying a fine.[2]
3 June 1652, William Bassett of Duxbury deeded forty acres of upland with the meadow adjoining to his son-in-law Lt. Perigrine White, and 16 June 1656 William made a deed of gift of land in Marshfield to his two sons living in Marshfield, Peregrine White and Nathaniel Bassett. [1][3][4]
Peregrine White of Marshfield left to his wife Sarah everything that was not otherwise disposed of in his will.[5][6]

1661, June 10- Sarah's older sister Elizabeth secured the first recorded divorce in the Colony. Her husband Thomas Burgess, Jr. had not been faithful having eloped with Lydia Gaunt to Newport, RI where they reared a family. Elizabeth and Thomas had been married for 13 years and had lived in Sandwich, MA. She was awarded one third of his property and 40 shillings of bed and bedding "that are at William Bassetts (her father)."
