The estate had been purchased by his father, Andrew Wettenhall (1585-1665). fromLord Aston in 1654 Andrew was the third son of Edward Wettenhaii of Hopton, near Stafford, buried at St. Mary's Stafford 1595< One family conn- ection is the Izaak Walton (DNB) author of "The Compleat Angler". The heraldic evidence suggeststhat this family were descended from John Wettenhall of Nantwich whose arms were granted in the 15th Century. The Wettenhall name appears in the official records for that area of Cheshire in the l5th and l4th Centuries and may derive fromaParish situated between Chester and Nantwich,
