About Sarah Elizabeth Prewit
Sarah (nee Stockton) Pruitt (1785-1881)
Sarah Stockton, who married Spencer Pruitt, was a daughter of Susannah (nee unknown) and Davis Stockton (c.1760-c.1805). This Davis Stockton was a son of Rachel (nee Allen) and Thomas Stockton, Sr., and a grandson of Davis Stockton (c.1685-1761) of Albemarle County, Virginia.
Please note that Sarah was born 1785 in VIRGINIA. That is extremely important. The Samuel Stockton family was living in North Carolina since BEFORE the Revolutionary War. Sarah named a son Newberry. In the Davis Stockton (c.1685-1761) family the name Newberry was only used by the descendants of Rachel (nee Allen) and Thomas Stockton, Sr. (c.1714-1783). In the 1780s, only Thomas Stockton, Sr. (c.1714-1783), and his descendants were still living in Albemarle County, Virginia. Newberry Stockton was Sarah (nee Stockton) Pruitt's uncle.
