the following books are the source of the information below. Using these transcriptions, it can be stated that Mary Butcher Middleton was the widow of Andrew Butcher.

From .Robert Middleton from the Middleton ancestry of General George Rust (Westmoreland County, Virginia) Unsure of the author but a note written at the top mentions a Mr. H. B. Rust, Aug. 25, 1831

I do not know the maiden name of Robert Middleton's wife, Mary, but it seems probably that either she or he was relaed to Nathaniel Garland, or to Garland's wife. Robert Middleton and Mary his wife, gave John and Nathaniel Garland, sons of Nathaniel, each a mare, and in his will, Garland a crown to buy gloves, and to Daniel and Jeremiah Garland each 500 pounds of tobacco, the four boys being sons of Nathaniel Garland and the only legatees named by Robert Middleton besides his sons and grandchildren. It is likely that Mary Middleton, the wife, died prior to the making of the will, as she is not named therein.

Being sick and weak of body,

• Fifty acres of land unto my son John Middleton.
• Also unto my son John Middleton and my son Benedict Middleton all my estate of land jointly.
• The eldest heir male enjoy my plantation of Tarrihorne with 364 acres of land and three ways of outlett.
• My said sons or their heirs shall not sell or mortgage any of my said lands except to each other

Unto John Garland and Nathaniel Garland both sons of Nathaniel Garland, an English crown to buy gloves and to Daniel Garland, and Jeremiah Garland sons of Nathaniel Garland each 500 lbs. of tobacco when said children are one and twenty years old. If either of them dies, the residue to the survivor.
• Unto John, Robert, Thomas, and Elizabeth Middleton all the children of John Middleton each 500 lbs. of tobacco to be paid to the boys at the age of twenty one and to the girls at the age of 17, and if any of them died before age the residue to the survivors.
• Unto my aforesaid sons all my other estate jointly. The Negroes now upon my plantation and alimbeck not be divided; one of my aforesaid sons have them paying the other for half value.
• My two sons John and Benedict Middleton, executors.
