About Rfn. James Henry Moroney
James Henry Moroney was born at Waipawa in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand's North Island on 22 April 1884. His parents were Daniel Moroney and Mary Ellen Moroney (nee McGreevy) who had married in New Zealand on 24 May 1882. During World War I James served with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 1st Battalion. James was killed in action at the Somme on 15 September 1916. 32-year-old James was buried in the Australian Imperial Forces Burial Ground at Flers in France. Bio by Debbie McCauley (2 October 2024).
