Son of James William and Margaret Gillice, of New Zealand. Rifleman in NZRB, file number 26/1166. On enlistment, James gave his birth year as 1889 instead of 1890 so he would appear to be a year older.
Mr and Mrs James Gillice, of Picton, received a cablegram from the Minister for Defence yesterday announcing the death of their son, Private James Roy Gillice, who was killed in action on the 8th March in France. Private Gillice was a member of the Rifle Brigade. Some time ago he was employed at the Picton freezing works. Source: Marlborough Express (27 March 1917, p. 5).
