

Charles Richard Bruce Tarrant was born at Manaia in Taranaki on 3 January 1891 (reg. 1891/17854). His parents were Patrick Tarrant (1855-1933) and Kate Tarrant (nee Evans) (1864-1932) who married in Hāwera on 12 September 1883. Charles joined the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 2nd Battalion during World War I [Service No. WWI 17835]. He was killed in action at Ypres in Belgium on 12 October 1917 and is remembered on Panel 7 of the Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium and in Hāwera Cemetery (bio by Debbie McCauley, 23 October 2021).
