Henry Sanborn Noyes (December 24, 1822 – May 24, 1872) was a president of Northwestern University.
As a NH youth, Henry attended the Methodist Episcopal Newbury Academy, as it was first called, and later headed said school when it was known as the Newbury Institute.
As we read in https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000212874298832 , the Academy grew out of efforts of his birthplace, Landaff, NH .
As an adherent to the teachings of Rev. George Whitefield and the Wesley brothers, but growing up on the land of the Abenaki, Noyes and other Reverends like him adhered to a sense of predestination which, as God's elect justified the erasure of any prior culture of the "New" "England" wilderness.
Before the lives of such men as Noyes and his partner Reverend Clark Titus Hinman , Newbury, Orange Co., VT had been known by the English Moniker "Cowass" as a settlement for Native Americans. After all, it was Noyes' Methodist ancestors who had settled in nearby Landaff.
" "Newbury was also the site of the Newbury Biblical Institute. Operating from 1837 to 1846 to train young men for the ministry, it was the first Methodist theological seminary in America. It was the predecessor of the Boston University School of Theology ."
