About Rebecca Woodford

Rebecca NEWELL was born in Jan 1643 in Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut, U.S.A.. She died on 9 May 1711 in Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut, U.S.A.. She was buried in May 1711 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, U.S.A.. Rebeckah was the eldest child of Thomas and Rebeckah. She married her next door neighbor, Joseph Woodford. The Newell house stood facing North Meadow Lane, now Farmington Avenue. The Woodford house faced on Waterville Road. The marriage of Rebeckah Newell and Joseph Woodford began a line of several generations of family members who lived in the Newell-Woodford house at what came to be called Newell Corners. In 1706, Joseph and Rebeckah sold their property to Rebeckah's brother, Samuel Newell, and moved to Avon and to Northfield, Massachusetts.

From research by Elizabeth Foster Tilton the following: "Joseph Woodford's wife" is mentioned as one of the persons who "are in full Communion in the Church in Farmington, March 1, 1679/80," and Joseph was admitted into membership 14 March 1692/3. (source: New England Genealogical Register)In a copy of a deed found in Farmington Land Records dated 29 March 1700 from Joseph Woodford Sr. of Farmington conveying land to "my Well beloved Daughter Hannah Now ye Wife of Thomas North." The property was given "more especially for her Reward for her Love Labor & Care to her mother In her Sore and long sorrow." From this it can be assumed that Rebecca died before this document was written. (Although, it could also be that she had helped her mother thru a long and hard illness, not that she had died, and her father was rewarding her for that. jld)
