About Pte. Walter Herbert Raynor
Walter Herbert Raynor was born at Lepperton in the Taranaki region of New Zealand's North Island on 25 July 1888 (reg. 1888/11103). His parents were William Raynor and Mary Elizabeth Raynor (née Hamblyn) who had married in 1883. Walter worked as a cheesemaker for the Pihama Co-operative Dairy Company. During World War I Walter served with the Wellington Infantry Regiment (Service No. WWI 47465). He was wounded in action on 8 February 1918 and admitted to the No. 4 New Zealand Field Ambulance. The following day he was admitted to the No. 2 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station where at 1pm he died of the wounds to his abdomen. 29-year-old Walter was buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery on 10 February 1918 [XXVII.
