Michael Gillice was the son of James William Gillice and of Margaret Gillice (nee Dunn), of Picton, Marlborough, New Zealand. On enlistment, Michael declared his birthday to be 14 March 1905, thus making his age appear to be 35 rather than his actual 48 years (NB. In the World War 2 Nominal Rolls, Michael's name appears as "Alfred Gillice" - this may have been a clerical error, or Michael may have gone as Alfred at the time he enlisted). Died while a Prisoner of War of leukemia and pneumonia. Michael was originally buried in the Military Cemetery at Lamsdorf, but was later disinterred and reburied at Krakow Rakowicki Cemetery in Poland. Source: Cenotaph.
