About Pte. Henry Leslie Boon

Henry Leslie Boon was the son of John Boon and Mary Boon (nee Galletly), of Sawyers Arm's Road, Papanui, Christchurch, New Zealand. His parents had married in New Zealand on 11 May 1881. Brother William James Boon (85789) also served in WW1. He died during the 1918 Influenza Pandemic.

PRIVATE H. L. BOON. Private Henry Leslie Boon, who was killed in action on June 15, was born at St Albans and went to reside in Papanui when four years of age. He was educated at Papanui Main School, after which he went to the North Island, where he was well known in Stratford, Douglass and Palmerston. He enlisted with the Sixteenth Reinforcements, but was put back through measles to the Seventeenth Reinforcements. He was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs J. Boon, and was twenty-three years of age. He was a brother of Mrs C. S. Combridge, Jun., Page's Road. Source: Star (Christchurch) (7 July 1917, p. 14).
