6 Peter Newcomb3 (Andrew2, Andrew1), b. about 1674, probably upon the Isles of Shoals, near Portsmouth, N. H.; m. March 11, 1699-1700, Mercy Smith, of Sandwich, Mass., dau. of Shubael and Annie, of Chilmark. Her brother, Shubael Smith, m. Martha Mayhew; whose mother's brother, Andrew Rankin, m. Grace, dau. of Capt. Andrew Newcomb of Boston. In the record of his marriage to Mary Smith, Mr. N. is said to be "late of Edgartown." He settled at Sandwich, Mass., where he kept an inn or public-house till his death. His son, William, and grands. William Newcomb, also owned and kept the same inn; the property is still in possession of their descendants. Jan. 22, 1701-2, he was witness to a deed given by his father, Andrew N., to his brother Simon'. By his Will, proved April 16, 1723, he gave all his estate to his wife, Mercy, she to divide it between their two ch. "as she shall see cause." In her Will, proved Jan. 17, 1723-4, she gave to dau. Mercy, silver tankard, big brass kettle, and £150; the real, and the remainder of the personal estate, to her son William.

ISSUE:

  1. Mercy or Mary, b. March 4, 1701; pub. to Jabez Dimock, of Boston, December 5, 1722. He was admitted to Second Chh. May 23, 1725. They had Mercy bap. Mar. 11, 1724, and Mary bap. Jan. 29, 1726-7.
  2. 2 William, b. Aug. 29, 1702; m. Bathsheba Bourn.

The will of Peter Newcomb of Sandwich was dated 19 October 1711 and proved on 16 April 1723 in Barnstable. He mentioned his wife Marcy (executor), and two children but not by name.[1]
