About Patrick Lowe

Patrick Lowe was 21 at the death of his father in 1583 and the eldest son. He is listed in the Musters of Derbyshire, "being a list of names of gentlemen who showed their lance and light horse at Belper, October 27, 1587." On August 145, 1597, he wrote to John Manners: "I have received a privy seal for a loan of 25 pounds. I owe at the present time 1,500 pounds, for the greater part whereof I pay interest, so that I have been enforced to give up house and sojourn with my friends for these last years, and to set out my living so as to satisfy the continual and earnest calling of those unto whom I stand indebted. I am therefore utterly unable to lend the Queen any money at present.

"Patrick Lowe of Derby, who married Jane Harpur, and had issue, among others, a son, John Lowe, who emigrated to Maryland about the middle of the seventeenth century. John Lowe emigrated to Marland and settled in St. Marie's Co., Maryland where he died. Was Major of the Colonial troops of St. Marie's Co., Justice and County Commissioner, 1694-1697, and Burgess for St. Marie's Co., 1697-1701." Will made 30th May 1698, probated 15th July 1701.
