Biography (updated 10 March 2025)

Patrick BRODERICK was born in 1796 in Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland. His parents were Patrick BRODERICK and Ann Mary TREASY / TRACEY.

Patrick married Mary CALLAGHY in 1820/1824 in Ireland. Together they had the following children:

• 1823 John ;
• 1825 Ann Mary ;
• 1827 Catherine .

In August 1831 Patrick (along with John CULLINANE and his brother in laws Patrick MANNION, Patrick CALLAGY and William CALLAGHY) was convicted for offences connected with the Terry Alts system and was sentenced to transportation for life. His wife and children remained behind in Ireland

Patrick arrived in Sydney Cove on 9 February 1832 on "Norfolk"

On 21 August 1839 a request was sent from Ireland requesting government passage for his 3 children as they were living in a state of destitution as their mother had died since he was transported.

On 7 July 1841 Patrick requested for his wife and 3 children to be given free passage.

• NOTE - he appears not to be aware that his wife had died at least 2 years prior

In November 1841 his 3 children arrived in Sydney cove on "Wallace"

Patrick died on 26 February 1878 in Laggan, New South Wales, Australia and was buried in Laggan Cemetery.
