About Name Not Known
NAME NOT KNOWN
The mother of James Hamilton of Allanshaw has not been satisfactorily identified. Presently, her name is not known. He was the son of James Hamilton in Allanshaw, and when his father died in April 1653 Jonet Rae was his wife, but it is not clear if she was the mother of James Hamilton of Allanshaw. The possibility that she was not his mother is suggested by the fact that he acted himself as cautioner for Jonet Rae but he is not specifically said to be her son.
The Testament Dative and Inventory of James Hamilton of Allanshaw
James Hamilton in Allanshaw died intestate in April 1653. His testament dative and Inventory was given up by his widow, Jonet Rae, on 17 November 1653, who was recognised as his only executor dative by the Glasgow Commissary Court. Financial provision was made for children, as was required by law, but the name or names of the beneficiaries are not recorded. James Hamilton of Allanshaw acted himself as cautioner for Jonet Rae and confirmation was granted to her on 21 November 1653.
